Welcome to the Communicate in ETDP Settings programme.

 

This learning programme is intended for all persons who need to demonstrate understanding of the outcomes-based education and training approach within the context of a National Qualifications Framework. The purpose of this Unit Standard is to develop underpinning knowledge and understanding that will inform actions and decisions with regard to implementation of OBET and the NQF.

 

This Unit Standard is for those involved in education, training and development, skills and people development. Competence at this level will enable learners to present and participate effectively in oral communication in various contexts. Learners at this level have a fundamental knowledge base of the purposes and the context for communication as well as of target audiences.

  • Course Prerequisites

    Learners should have the following:

     

    • Competent in Communications at NQF level 3 or equivalent experience and are able to use basic data gathering methods.
    • Competent at NQF level 4 to write texts for a range of communicative contexts.
    • Competent in general analysis and design techniques, and have a working knowledge of outcome-based education and training. It is also assumed that learners are able to develop learning materials based on a given design.
    • Have achieved unit standard NLRD 115753: Conduct outcomes-based assessment, or equivalent.
    • Competent in the relevant field in which Practitioners are designing assessments, or have access to subject matter experts.
    • Ability to analyse and interpret the relevant outcomes (or standards).
    • Possess a working knowledge of outcome-based education and training.

In Class or Virtual Class Based Learning

A technology mediated delivery method allowing campus based class or virtual class attendance, or a combination of both. Classes can be in the form of lecture based or mentored based.

 

Mentored Online Learning

A technology mediated, self paced online delivery method with personal mentorship.

  • Certificate of Competency from ETDP SETA upon successful completion of the PoE process (Moderated and found competent)

Important Notes

  • Learners to arrive at the training venue from 08:00 in preparation for 08:30 starting time
  • Bookings are only confirmed upon receipt of the proof of payment or an official company purchase order.
  • For full day, on campus courses, Learnfast will supply you with a computer to use for training (if applicable) & tea/coffee and a full lunch. Catering is not included for On-Site training and laptops are available for hire at an additional cost if required.
  • Cancellation or rescheduling requests must be in writing and reach us via email at least 5-10 working days prior to the course commencement date. Full course fees will be retained for no shows.
  • Virtual learners are required to have a stable internet connection & a working headset available for sound purposes.
  • Learners who use their own laptops are fully responsible to ensure that administration rights, software installations, etc. are working sufficiently prior to training.
  • Learnfast reserves the right to cancel or postpone dates if we require to do so and undertake to inform clients in writing and telephonically of these changes.
  • Learnfast is not responsible for costs associated with cancellation of classes such as flight and accommodation for clients.
 
 

Module 1: Explain the outcomes- based approach to education and training (OBET)

  • Explain the concept of an outcome as a means of defining learner achievements and/or desired results of learning within the context of a transformative approach to education, training and development
  • Explain the differences between the outcomes-based approach and other education and training approaches in terms of key factors
  • Explain assessment in terms of its centrality to the outcomes-based approach, the importance of applying principles of assessment and the impact of assessment on learning
  • Describe the impact of OBET in terms of potential benefits to learners, employers, industry and society at large
  • Describe the challenges associated with the implementation of OBET in terms of cost, manageability and the potential impact on learning organisations 
  • Use key terminology associated with OBET appropriately to the context

 


Module 2: Describe the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)

  • Describe the history, rationale, objectives, principles and aims of the NQF.
  • Ensure that descriptions are consistent with the body of literature on the subject, and reveal a grasp of the development of the NQF Describe the mechanisms of the NQF.
  • Ensure that descriptions are consistent with SAQA definitions and reveal an understanding of the purposes of the various mechanisms
  • Describe NQF-related structures in terms of their composition, function and relationships in line with current published definitions
  • Describe processes and requirements for participation in the structures in line with current published definitions.
  • Ensure that descriptions reveal the impact of participation and/or non-participation on learners, learning organisations, and companies 
  • Describe the notion of levels and bands of the NQF in line with SAQA definitions
  • Use key terminology associated with the NQF appropriately to the context

 


Module 3: Describe and explain standards within the context of the NQF

  • Define standards consistent with SAQA definitions
  • Explain key parts of standards in terms of their purpose, key features, form of language and relationships with the other parts of standards
  • Identify issues concerning the size and scope of standards and provide focus questions to enable decision-making regarding the size and scope of a standard
  • Describe standards according to their various uses and relationship to qualifications
  • \Provide rules, processes and principles concerning the design and registration of standards in line with SAQA regulations
  • Use key terminology associated with standards appropriately to the context

 


Module 4: Describe and explain qualifications

  • Define qualifications consistent with SAQA definitions
  • Explain key parts of qualifications in terms of their purpose, key features, form of language and relationships with the other parts of qualifications
  • Identify issues concerning the size and scope of qualifications and provide focus questions to enable decision-making regarding the size and scope of a qualification
  • Describe qualifications according to their various uses and relationship to standards
  • Provide rules, processes and principles concerning the design and registration of qualifications in line with SAQA regulations
  • Use key terminology associated with qualifications appropriately to the context

 


Module 5: Develop a broad plan for implementing the NQF within an organisation

  • Identify the key elements that need to be put in place to ensure implementation of the NQF
  • Provide motivation for implementation of the NQF in terms of benefits to learners, employers, employees and organisations
  • Provide a credible framework for further analysis and the development of detailed action plans, policies and procedures
  • Ensure that the plan reveals insight into the rationale, objectives, principles, aims, mechanisms and structures of the NQF
  • Ensure that the plan takes account of the vision, mission, values and strategic objectives of the organisation

 


Module 6: Interact as a listener and/or speaker in oral communication in an ETD setting

  • Ensure that responses show a clear understanding of complex issues under discussion in one-on-one or group situations.
  • Clarify own understanding and develop it further during discussions and provide opportunity during interactions for the clarification of one another's understanding.
  • Manage discussions and/or disagreements sensitively and in a manner that supports the goal of group or one-on-one interaction.
  • Identify the underlying assumptions, points of view and subtexts in spoken texts and evaluate it when appropriate to clarify understanding, remove bias and/or sustain interaction

 


Module 7: Use writing skills for specific purposes, audiences and contexts in an ETD setting

  • Demonstrate time management skills in the planning of the text.
  • Identify texts used in the workplace or other environments for specific transactional functions and give an indication of the purpose of each text
  • Choose the narrative voice appropriate to context, purpose and audience
  • Produce texts that demonstrate considered choice of content and justification for inclusion of decisions/incidents/requirements
