This learning programme intended to apply a systems approach to decision making. After completing this course, the learner will be able to apply critical and analytical skills to analyse an issue or problem; engage with stakeholders in analysing the issue/problem and developing solutions; select feasible solutions through a systems approach and formulate and communicate the decision.

In Class or Virtual Class Based Learning

A technology mediated delivery method allowing campus based class or virtual class attendance, or a combination of both. Classes can be in the form of lecture based or mentored based.

 

Mentored Online Learning

A technology mediated, self paced online delivery method with personal mentorship.

Important Notes

  • Students are to be at the training venue by 08h00 in preparation for a 08h30 start time.
  • Learnfast retains the right to change this calendar without any notification.
  • Bookings are only confirmed upon receipt of the proof of payment or an official company purchase order for the full amount of the training.
  • For full day courses Learnfast will supply you with the relevant training material. A desktop computer to use for the training (where applicable), tea/coffee and a full lunch for full day InClass training hosted at Learnfast only. Catering is not included for OnSite training and laptop is available for hire at an additional cost if required.
  • Cancellation or rescheduling requests must be in writing and reach us via fax or email at least 5 (five) working days prior to the course commencement date. Full course fees may be retained for no shows or requests within 5 working days prior to commencement.
  • Although we go to great lengths to ensure that all training proceeds as scheduled, Learnfast reserves the right to cancel or postpone dates if we require to do so and undertake to inform clients in writing and telephonically of these changes.
  • Learnfast suggests clients wait until a week prior to course commencement that a course has been confirmed to go ahead as scheduled before booking flight and accommodation. Learnfast is NOT responsible for cost associated with cancellation of classes such as flight and accommodation for clients.
 

Module 1: Apply Critical and Analytical Skills to Analyse a Problem

  • Apply critical and analytical skills to analyse and define an issue/problem affecting the functioning of a unit
  • Apply critical and analytical skills to determine factors impacting on the issue/problem and other areas in a unit and the entity affected by the issue/problem

Module 2: Engage with Stakeholders in Analysing the Problem and Developing Solutions

  • Communicate the purpose of the consultation to stakeholders with reference to the aspects of the issue/problem and solutions to be discussed
  • Explain the critical and analytical processes for analysing the issue/problem and generating ideas on addressing the issue/problem with examples
  • Obtain the participation of stakeholders in analysing the unit's internal and external environment to identify factors relevant to the issue/problem
  • Obtain the participation of team members in developing solutions to the issue/problem that would contribute towards the functioning of the unit and the broader system within which it operates
  • Recognise and respect the different ideas, values and perspectives of team members and stakeholders in view of the value they add to the solution developed

Module 3: Select Feasible Solutions through a Systems Approach

  • Analyse the inputs from stakeholders to identify feasible solutions to the issue/problem that would improve the functioning of the unit and the broader system within which it operates
  • Prioritise the identified solutions in terms of their potential outcomes on the various processes/sections in the unit, the wider entity and external stakeholders
  • Select a solution(s) that is most appropriate within a systems context taking into consideration interrelated issues that impact on the solution and areas that will be impacted upon by the implementation of the solution

Module 4: Formulate and Communicate the Decision

  • Formulate the decision on addressing the issue/problem with reference to the impact of the decision on the unit and the broader system within which it operates
  • Describe the actions required to implement the decision in the unit with reference to activities, role players, resources and timelines
  • Describe the change processes that are required to support the implementation of the decision with reference to their impact on the success of the implementation of the decision
  • Communicate the decision to relevant team members in the unit and other stakeholders who will be involved in its implementation in a user-friendly format
